Lettera a Siracusa was Lavera’s first solo exhibition in Italy. It took place in Ortigia, Siracusa, Sicily at the Ortea Palace Luxury Hotel – Autograph Collection. The opening night took place on September 15 and was on display until October 1st, 2023.

Artwork

Captivated by the symbols and traditions surrounding the history of the island, so culturally rich, “Lettera a Siracusa” is a love letter that Lavera leaves to Syracuse before her departure. A tribute that offers a journey through some mythological stories that took place in the Sicilian territory. Drawing from this corpus of mythology, history, and literature, Lavera explores some historical symbols that still persist and travel through time with us. These narratives evolve depending on who tells them and always manage to adapt, persisting and becoming symbols of history and cultural roots.

Opening night

Towards the evening, in the hotel’s Agora, “Lettera a Siracusa” was presented before the curious gaze of the guests. Connoisseurs and admirers of the artist’s work converged with hotel guests who came to enjoy a cocktail and witness Lavera’s live performance, along with friends that the artist made during her last three-month stay in Siracusa. In addition, there was the presence of Prestifilippo, manager of culture and school at the City Hall’s Cabinet; Luigi Martines, CEO of Onda Più; and Fabio Granata, advisor for local culture.
